Rapper Warren formed the group 213, together with Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus) and Nate Dogg (Nathaniel Hale), in 1990. The group was given its name from the old Los Angeles area code (213) that also serviced their city of Long Beach. Unfortunately, all three of them ran into legal trouble and had to serve time in prison, which inspired them to find employment and pursue their musical endeavors on the side.
The group was once permitted to rehearse and record in a back room of the V.I.P. record shop. Snoop recorded the demo for "Super Duper Snooper" here, and Warren later played it for Dre at a party. The song "Regulate" was included on the "Above the Rim" soundtrack in 1994. The album was propelled to the same place on the Billboard charts when it rapidly became a huge smash, peaking at #2.
