The Tony Awards, which honor the best of Broadway, were held on Sunday. Ariana DeBose, who has won an Oscar and been nominated for a Tony Award, was the ceremony's host. DeBose, who also ran last year's Tony Awards, said that the event was going on without lines because the Writers Guild of America (WGA) was still on strike.
Before the big night, 27 new productions were considered. The winner was the musical version of Some Like It Hot, which got 13 nominations. Other top shows were "Romeo and Juliet," "New York, New York," "Shucked," and "Kimberly Akimbo," all of which got nine. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which was also nominated eight times, was the show that was brought back to life with the most nominations. Here is the list of winners:
