Let's call it the Karate Kid Movie Universe. Both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio played the lead roles in The Karate Kid movies many years apart. They will both be back in Sony Pictures' newest entry in the famous coming-of-age martial arts series.
Jonathan Entwistle, who is best known for the award-winning and well-reviewed teen dramas I'm Not Okay with Thisand The End of the F***ing World,is directing the untitled movie that the studio is marketing as continuing the story of the original series.
Today, the worldwide search for an actor to play the former title character began. Chan and Macchio made an opening movie to get things going.
Sony Pictures says the movie will incorporate and carry on the mythology of the previous movies and bring the story to the East Coast. It will be about a Chinese teen who finds strength and direction through martial arts and a tough but wise instructor.
Another part of the story is being kept secret, but the studio did say that Macchio will play Daniel LaRusso again from the first three Karate Kid movies. The story began in 1984, when Macchio's character Daniel moved to California and learned karate from the late Pat Morita's character, Mr. Miyagi.
Macchio played the part again in the Netflix show Cobra Kai, which was made by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. The fifth season of the show started in September and brought back a lot of actorsfrom Karate Kid III. The story takes place many years after the events of the first three movies and Daniel and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who are now middle-aged, start competing with each other again. The streamer picked up the show for a sixth and final season in January, hinting that it would be the "biggest season yet."
Chan will play Mr. Han again, just like he did in the 2010 movie remake of The Karate Kid that tried to make the story more current and relevant to people around the world. Our hero, Chan, had a helper who was a kung fu master who was based on Morita's Mr. Miyagi and trained Jaden Smith's Dre Parker.
Since it first came out, "The Karate Kid" has had a huge following. It was the basis for the TV show "Cobra Kai," which reunited Robert De Niro and William Zabka in their part as Daniel's enemy Johnny Lawrence from the original movie. There are also plans for a Broadway show based on the story. Some characters from the first series have also come back to the show.
There are nine Emmy nominations for the show, which you can watch on Netflix. One of them is for best comedy series.

Final Words

They are going to play their famous parts again in a brand-new "Karate Kid" movie coming out next year. Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are making sure that the Miyagi-verse will live on after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai. Sony Pictures revealed that the two will play their famous characters from The Karate Kid again in a brand-new movie coming out next year.
