Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn broke up after being together for six years. “Taylor and Joe broke up a few weeks ago. They simply grew apart and plan to remain friends.” Swift, who is on her "Eras Tour" right now, and Alwyn were first said to be dating in 2016.
The Grammy winner and Alwyn were able to keep their relationship mostly a secret, but in true Taylor Swift style, the singer dropped some Easter eggs about Alwyn in her songs along the way.
In January, Swift said on Instagram that the song "Lavender Haze" from her 2022 album "Midnights" is about Alwyn. She said that when you're in a lavender haze of love, “you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud.”
“„
Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.- Taylor Swift
Swift started dating Alwyn in 2016. Before that, she was with Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, Joe Jonas, John Mayer, and Harry Styles, all of whom are famous in the entertainment industry. In her upcoming documentary, "Miss Americana," the pop singer says that she was drawn to Alwyn's "wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life."
During their time together, Alwyn helped Swift write some songs under the name William Bowery. Most recently, "Sweet Nothing" from the Grammy winner's most recent studio album is credited to Bowery. He also worked on a few songs on Taylor Swift's "Folklore" and "Evermore" albums. Alwyn recently told talk show host Kelly Clarkson,
“„
We did it under the name William Bowery. Very fancy. It sounds like a kind of Agatha Christie character that should be wearing a monocle with a big mustache- Joe Alwyn

We chose to do it so the people first and foremost would listen to the music before dissecting the fact that we did it together- Joe Alwyn
It's important to remember that Swift has written more than one song about an ex-boyfriend. Many of her songs, like "All Too Well," "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Back to December," and "Forever and Always," are about her breakups and relationships with her exes.
Swift has already written a few songs about Alwyn, so it's not clear if he'll write another one. If he does, though, fans shouldn't expect it to be as dramatic, pointed, or critical as some of these other songs, if the rumors about the breakup being friendly are true.
After six years together, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn break up. The split newscomes as Swift is traveling the country for her sold-out Eras tour, at which the actor hasn't been spotted.
During the pandemic, the two also started making music together. This led to a Grammy Award winner. Both of 2020's sister albums, Folklore and Evermore, had songs by Alwyn that were written under the name William Bowery.
Folklore ended up taking home the 2021 Grammy for Album of the Year and Evermore was nominated for the same award at the 2022 ceremony.
