The Oscar nominations 2023 were announced early Tuesday morning by actors Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams. The usual gasps, cheers, snubs, and surprises followed. "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once," a crowd-pleasing mind-bender, came in first with 11.

It was followed by "All Quiet on the Western Front," a German war movie on Netflix, and "The Banshees of Inisherin," an Irish dark comedy, both with nine, and "Elvis," with eight.

"Top Gun: Maverick," "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," and "Avatar: The Way of Water" all did well at the box office. They made $6, $5, and $4, respectively. In Top Gun: Maverick, from Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Tom Cruise plays Capt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

All 23 categories' finalists were announced in two parts on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, and the Motion Picture Academy's social media accounts (Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook).

The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and shown live on ABC. Here is the full list of nominees. See what surprises and snubs caught the eye of our awards columnist.
